No matter we use special copying lens, macro lens or normal lens, the most important point is that the object must be parallel with the film plane. The lighting must be even and avoid hot spot, so a balance lighting with two lamps at 30 degree is better. For tungsten light, Kodak's EPT160 is the best slide for copying. We suggest to use high quality enlarger lens because its plane of focus is flat instead of curvature. As most SLR camera is bayonet mount, we need an adapter to fit the enlarger lens, which is screw mount. To meet various size of object, we need a set of rings to adjust the distance between the lens and the film plane. If such kind of rings cannot be found, then we have to make it ourselves or order from specific workshop. For copying with macro lens or normal lens, we must focus at one third distance from the center to keep the whole object closer to focus. Otherwise, the image will not be sharp. |
The left side is a normal lens, which has a curvature form of focus. The middle one is a macro lens, which will have a less curvy form of focus for close distance. The right side is a high standard enlarger lens, which is designed with a flatness to flatness form of focusing. That is why we suggest that when using normal or macro lens for copying, it is better to focus on one third from the center of object.
The red lines mark the one third position from center, focusing on this postion will benefit from the depth of field for copying with normal or macro lens
