For Digital Imaging, we must be sure what will be needed in future because the resolution will fix the maximum size of output. A few years ago, we had to arrange an internal training for a company. Before preparing the notes, we decided to use CORELDRAW for editing and found out the size of illustration. At that time, the best color inkjet had a resolution of 720x720. Because this case concerned photographic business and the quality of general film scanner was low, we decided to use PHOTO CD. About ten to twenty images with cost a few hundreds was a bargain. The resolution of CD MASTER (the general format of PHOTO CD) comes with five tiers with a maximum of 2K by 3K. This is very important that the lower tiers are not by interpolation. They has been created altogether during the scanning, which means that all tiers have the same quality. So we used the Base (768 x 512) for illustrations which were about 2 by 3 inches on the A4 page.

This is a basic knowledge to get what is needed and paid for the highest quality one can get. Digital imaging is designed for working with computer and all kind of equipments for digital imaging including scanners and printers are computer-related peripheral. They would be replaced in a short time by new models, better and cheaper. That is why we must buy only when we need. Since there are a lot of models for each kind with different price and features, the best way is to choose one with the features that we want. Do not pay for what we do not need.
