Quick Guide Knowledge

For using digital image for graphic printing, MAC is still the best choice, because most output center will be equiped with. Any minor amendment can be handled by these centers. With PC, image files must be converted to TIFF for MAC.

General film scanner is suitable for output up to A4 only. For high quality or bigger size output (A3 or up), a professional film scanner is required. When considering resolution, it is optical resolution that counts. Output resolution is usually an interpolated result. Remember that interpolation of any rate higher than 150% will affect the image quality. Drum scanner has higher resolution. Some may up to 100,000 dpi (dots per inch). In theory, it should be better. But all scanners need an analog to digital process in order to make the output in a digital form. That is the hidden specification that makes the difference between scanners, not the resolution.

Choice of output is an individual requirement. Without actual test, any sound specificaion means nothing true. Such kind of test will need actual operation to make the result trustworthly.

Technology is for reference only. It should not be considered for selection. The most important is cost and result. If cost is acceptable and output quality is suitable for application, that is the right choice.

We used CORELDRAW to edit this poster. All images are PHOTO CD files. The output file was sent to a digital output center for color separation and proof before printing.
