Camera must be stored without film and battery inside. No leather case should be used because leather can absorb moisture. Either a high-grade dry box or steel cabinet or anywhere that has gentle air flow.

To guarantee the camera to work fine requires basic care. First, after use or a considerate period of storage, clean the body with cotton cloth. If there is stain or grease, apply a few Brasso or metal-polish paste to the cloth and rub the body gently.

For a SLR (Single-Lens Reflex) camera after use, take out the lens, open the camera back, and press shutter release ten to twenty times. Lens, especially zoom lens, must be gently twisted ten to twenty times. This will get rid of the moisture that might be kept inside. During rainy season, it will be better to leave the body and lens under desktop lamplight for a few hours before storage. Cleaning the camera body is to avoid the accumulation of dirt.

All dry boxes use silica gel or heat to keep humidity low. It is better to get a hygrometer from scientific appliances store to measure periodically. The coating of lens requires a humidity of 30% to 40%, too high may have fungus, too low may force the coating crack. Silica gel can absorb moisture and release them when heated. Some may choose to add silica gel to box for storing camera and lens. Regular checking must be performed.

Lens must be clean with Kodak Lens Cleaning Tissue because it is absolutely safe for the coating. Use blower to air out all dirt, and then apply lens-cleaning fluid to the tissue. Start from the center; gently swirl to the edge. Repeat with another tissue if needed.

If cleaning fluid has to use to get rid of fungus, then clean with steam after. Use of steam requires special care to avoid steam slipping into the lens.

The best to avoid cleaning is to use often, in other words, let the lens see the sunlight, which will kill all fungus.

When liquid is used for cleaning the camera or lens, it must be handled carefully, avoiding liquid going into the camera or the lens.

There are two springs for releasing and resetting the shutter of camera. Either one will be at tension all the time. The fallacy of not resetting the shutter can be kept for long time is wrong. It might be taking one form at a fixed period then the other that could be effective.

The best way to keep the camera and lens in good order is to use frequently. Let them have sunshine at least once a month. Most cameras can be used without film. It costs nothing to exercise to keep camera and lens in good shape.
Some other cleaning material has been used by many. It is always safe after years of usage. But we must be sure that those materials like chamois that supplied before does not guarantee what we can get today. There is no rule to govern this kind of supplies. Furthermore, when we clean the lens, it is the coating that we access to. The coating material is not the same as before. It has been known that cloth with silica is not safe for coating. It is better to check clearly before applying to the precious lens.
